Kanakku de Kogaku Ensemble

Bach - Concerto for Various Instruments

2025/03/22(sa.) 14:00 Starting

Yokohama City Kanagawa Ward Citizens Cultural Center Kanakku HallKanagawa

The "Kanakku de Kogaku Ensemble" recreates the sounds of the Baroque era using instruments (old musical instruments) that were played in that period. We will present two concertos and a vocal piece composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, one of the greatest composers of Baroque music. The concerto known as the Brandenburg Concerto is what Bach called a "concerto for various instruments. No. 6 is a concerto for string ensemble, with the viola supported by the arms and played between the legs, and the viola (da gamba) and cello playing solo. No. 5 is said to be the first piece in the world to be composed with the harpsichord as the solo instrument, and is performed solo with the flute and violin. It is said that instrumental music in the Baroque period was honed with the human voice (singer) as its goal. Bach's cantata "All the earth, exult unto God," for soprano, trumpet, and string ensemble, sings of overflowing joy in voice and instrumental solo.
