Inbal's Shostakovich No. 13, after two cancellations due to the Corona disaster, is now available to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the composer's death. The text, which seems to denounce not only the massacre of Jews by Nazi Germany but also anti-Semitism and oppression in Imperial Russia and the Soviet Union, is combined with skillful orchestration and sung with inner anger and sarcasm in this unique and shivering symphony. In a sense, it is Shostakovich's masterpiece. With Russian bass singer Grigory Shkarpa, whom Inbal also trusts, and the Estonian National Male Chorus, this is the culmination of Shostakovich's music performed by Inbal and the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.
