Kyoto University Symphony Orchestra 216th Subscription Concert

This concert will open with the overture from Beethoven's ballet music "The Creation of Prometheus". Among the overtures composed by Beethoven, the famous composer known as the saint of music, this work has been performed rather infrequently. This will be the fifth time in 52 years that the Kyoto University Orchestra, which has performed many of Beethoven's works, will perform it. After such a hidden masterpiece, Liszt's symphonic poem "Hamlet" will be performed next. This is not only the first time the Kyoto University Orchestra has performed this work, but it is probably the third time it has been performed in Japan and the first time an amateur orchestra has performed it in Japan. This will be a rare opportunity to experience the tragic sound of this work, based on Shakespeare's immortal masterpiece "Hamlet," in a concert hall. The last piece to be performed will be Saint-Saens' Symphony No. 3 "with Organ". This will be the second time in seven years that the Kyoto University Orchestra will perform this work, having first performed it at the 202nd Subscription Concert. For this orchestra, whose repertoire for many years consisted mainly of German, Austrian, and Russian music, the inclusion of French music in its main repertoire was a very challenging program. It will be a rare musical experience to experience firsthand the majestic sound of the organ at the Kyoto Concert Hall and the Symphony Hall, two of Japan's most prestigious concert halls. The organist invited this time is Ms. Tomoko Iwasa, who has extensive experience in performing this work. The skilled baton of Mr. Kazuyoshi Akiyama, the solemn and flowing organ music of Ms. Iwasa, and the youthful orchestral sound of the Kyoto University Orchestra will surely envelop the audience with overwhelming enthusiasm.
