Another year, another hot baroque music festival will be held in Fukuoka. Thanks to your enthusiastic support, "Progressive Baroque LIVE in FUKUOKA 2024" will be held for the third time.

In this series, we have performed music from the 17th century, especially Spanish music, which is rarely heard in Japan. Even Italian Baroque music from the 17th century is much less often performed than the music of 18th century masters such as Vivaldi. For many years, we have been performing with the single-minded desire to make the wonderful music of this period known to as many people as possible.

The highlight of this year's concert will be the performances by two guests who will be making their first appearance in Fukuoka.

The first is Yoko Kawakubo, a violinist active on the world stage. She is a graduate of the music college where I teach, and I fell in love with her talent when she was a student and scouted her for our group. It is truly a rare opportunity to have her, who is based in France, in Fukuoka. She is one of my most trusted violinists, so please look forward to her playing, as well as her beautiful playing style that seems to have come out of a painting from the Baroque era.

The second performer is Asako Morikawa, viola da gamba player. An old friend from college, Asako studied abroad in Europe and is now one of Japan's leading viola da gamba players. Last year, I had the opportunity to perform with her for the first time after many years, and I was so impressed by her polished performance during our first rehearsal. This time, in addition to the viola da gamba, which is often used for low notes, she will also play the viola da gamba "treble," which is about the size of a violin. Please enjoy the change of tone caused by the difference in instruments.

This year's guest performer will be Kazumi Jono, a talented recorder player living in Fukuoka. She has been a friend of ours since our college days and has supported Fukuoka's music scene for a long time.

This performance is a one-of-a-kind space created by our passion for music, which we have nurtured over the years, and the encounter with our talented guests. Please come and experience the excitement and enthusiasm that will overturn the image of "baroque music" at the venue.
