Japonism Orchestra Tokyo Concert 2024
Kenji Miyazawa's Ideal Land of Sound
2024/11/01(Fr.) 19:00 Starting
Mitaka City Arts Center Kaze no Hall (Tokyo)
Official http://fippamusic.com/jo/
The "Japonism Orchestra" is an orchestra for the new era that combines Gagaku, the world's oldest existing ensemble music, classical music with its beautiful harmony and formal beauty, and jazz with its high improvisational element. This project started with the first performance in 2019, and has been performed in 2020 and 2021, with the performance at Hamarikyu Hall in 2022 being particularly well received.
This year's performance, the first in two years, will be even larger in scale, and will feature music specially prepared for this performance by the project's leader, Koji Kakizaki (drummer, percussionist, arranger), along with narration.
The theme is "Ihatov," a sound utopia depicted by Kenji Miyazawa. Ihatove is the name of the utopia that Kenji Miyazawa, one of Japan's most famous poets and writers of children's stories, depicted in his creations, using Iwate as a motif.
In Ihatov, humans and animals live in the great outdoors, exchanging words, acknowledging, and helping each other. Many of Kenji's poems and stories take place in this fictional and imaginary world of Ihatov.
Kenji's literary works are characterized by a fantastic worldview depicted by his gentle and beautiful language and unique vocabulary and onomatopoeia. At the same time, however, they are also interwoven with profound themes concerning nature, religion, and social issues, such as the harshness of the natural world, the greed of modern man, and the Lotus Sutra's view of life and death through reincarnation. The works left behind by Kenji not only have a familiarity that continues to endear them to children, but they also contain powerful messages that will touch the hearts of adults living in a modern society full of contradictions and anguish.
The "Japonism Orchestra" will depict the fantastic landscape of Ihatov, which Kenji described in his words, with music - a new sound that no one has ever heard before. The "Japonism Orchestra" depicts the fantastic landscape of Ihatov that Kenji described through his words, through music - a new sound that no one has heard before. We hope you will experience the sound world of Kenji Miyazawa, which transcends the boundaries of genres, at the venue.
