We, "Koudai Opera," are composed of students, faculty members, graduate students, and others enrolled in the "Opera Practice" class, a specialized course in the Music Culture course of the Faculty of Education at Hiroshima University. Every year in April and November, we put on regular opera performances, which are enjoyed by so many people that the hall is filled to capacity.
In addition to the cast and piano, the faculty, graduate students, and students work together to create a single performance, handling everything from lighting, costumes, props, publicity, and direction. Not only voice students, but also students in the minor and other faculties participate, and we invite people from the local community to join us. With the motto of "everyone plays a leading role," we aim to create a performance in which there are no principals or prima donnas.
We also aim to nurture well-rounded individuals through opera, which is a comprehensive art form. We sometimes go beyond the university and actively hold art appreciation events and off-campus performances at kindergartens, elementary, junior high, and senior high schools.
For this performance, we also use props made by the children of Kurahashi Junior High School as part of their comprehensive class. Elementary and junior high school students perform together to enliven the chorus scene.
This is an opera that both children and adults can enjoy, created in cooperation with local children. We look forward to seeing you there.
