Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra The 1013rd Subscription Concert Series A Unofficial

On the eve of the 50th anniversary of Shostakovich's death (2025), Kazushi Ohno, the music director of the festival, will perform the Eighth Symphony. Is it a tragedy of war, an epitaph for the victims, or a glimmer of hope at the end of the war? The Eighth Symphony is a controversial work that has aroused much debate, and is regarded as one of Shostakovich's greatest symphonies. Ohno, who has conducted this piece many times, will bring out a new expression through his deep insight and dramatic compositional skills.
In the first half, the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra's young principal cellist, Yutaka Ito, will appear for the first time as a soloist in a subscription concert. He will perform Haydn's First Concerto, which he has requested, and will showcase his fresh and rich sound to the audience.
