May 7, 1824 . The year 2024 marks the exact 200th anniversary of the world premiere of the greatest treasure of mankind, Symphony No. 9 with Chorus, by Saint Beethoven.

Let us perform the exact same program as at that time! The Progit (German for "Cheers!") Chamber Orchestra will perform a program exactly the same as it was performed back then. This is the first concert of the Progit (German for "Cheers!") Chamber Orchestra, a group of amateur chamber orchestras from all over the Kansai region, organized by one of the members of the Kansai Professional Orchestra Secretariat. This time, the concert will be realized by the combined efforts of all amateurs.

This concert will be the only project of its kind in Japan among orchestras throughout the country, as a performance by purely amateur citizens whose parent organizations are purely amateur.

At that time, the program was a program that would be impossible today: "Dedication Overture" and "Missa solemnis (!)" excerpts and "Ninth Symphony. The program was a combination of a very difficult piece: excerpts from "Dedication Overture" and "Mass Solemnis" (!) and "Ninth Symphony".
The concert was somehow a success, despite the performance, after a lot of slapstick in the preparation.
We, too, are striving to experience a little of the atmosphere of the stage and audience of those days.

The concert will be conducted by Yusuke Kimotsu, a young and brilliant conductor with a wealth of experience in teaching professionals and amateurs, and concertmaster Kenji Tomonaga (Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra), with a splendid cast of soloists including the Kobe City Mixed Chorus, Kansai Opera Company, and other leading vocalists active in the Kansai region.

We hope you will all come and listen to the performance!

Program

  • Overture to "Dedication" Op. 124

    Ludwig van Beethoven

  • Kyrie, Credo, and Agnus Dei from "Missa solemnis" in D major, Op. 123

    Ludwig van Beethoven

  • Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125 "With Chorus

    Ludwig van Beethoven

Beethoven was the most advanced rock of his time.
This concert is unique in the sense that it will be performed on modern instruments rather than the period instruments often used in similar concerts.

Although it was difficult for the citizens to perform on period instruments, it is our hope that this concert will not only trace back to that time, but will also be a fusion of modern and contemporary music with an understanding of the time and a concert of a new era.

However, the performance will be given in a normal configuration this time, since the performance balance will be out of balance due to the improved performance of instruments nowadays.
