Toshima City Orchestra The 97th Regular Concert

The Toshima City Orchestra will perform Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony at its 97th regular concert, the third time to challenge this work since it was planned to be performed in the summer of 2020 and the spring of 2021, but both concerts were cancelled due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus infection.
The piece, which is said to have been written based on Strauss' childhood experience of climbing the Zugspitze in the German Alps, will be performed by an orchestra of more than 120 musicians, including four winds, many percussion instruments, more than 18 string instruments, organ, and banda.
The first half is Schubert's Unfinished Symphony. The age difference between Schubert and Strauss is 67 years, and their lives do not overlap, but both wrote masterpieces in both the song and symphony genres, and there is a sense of commonality between the two.
This program will trace the transition of German music in the 19th century by comparing the symphonies of Schubert and Richard Strauss.
