The NHK Symphony Orchestra is coming to Katsuka Symphony Hills again this year. This year's concert will feature works written by Mozart and Haydn in the latter stages of their careers. Mozart's Symphony No. 32 will be performed at the beginning of the concert. It is a beautiful piece of less than 10 minutes in a single movement, but it is one of the favorites in the repertoire of Junichi Hirokami, who will conduct this concert, and is well-known to his fans. It was a highly anticipated selection for the opening of the Hirokami & NHK Symphony Orchestra concert. The next piece, "Piano Concerto No. 27," was Mozart's last piano concerto, written nine months before his death. It is a masterpiece of exquisitely beautiful melody and delicate orchestration, with a sprinkling of brilliance and private thoughts that evoke the desolate last years of the genius composer. The soloist was Michie Koyama, a close friend of Hirokami's from his student days and one of the best pianists in Japan.
In contrast to Mozart, who quietly left the stage, Haydn, who was relieved of his longtime duties as court musician after turning 60, was invited across the sea to London, where he received an enthusiastic welcome from the citizens. The symphonic genre once again enjoyed great development in Haydn's hands. Symphony No. 101, "The Clock," is a masterpiece representative of this period.
