The Kitagawa Memorial Russian Folk Instruments Orchestra was formed in Tokyo in 2009 with Sho Kitagawa, the only Japanese professional balalaika player, as its musical director. The orchestra is composed mainly of Russian folk instruments such as balalaika, domra, gusli, and bayan, and performs a variety of music genres including classical music, Russian folk songs, and film music.
Thanks to your support, the group will celebrate its 15th anniversary in 2024, and will hold a commemorative concert. We will deliver a performance that will be the culmination of our past activities, inviting singer Tokiko Kato as a special guest and choir Shirakaba, with whom we have had a close relationship since our founding, as guest performers.
