Bach Collegium Japan Festive All-Bach Program Unofficial

Since its founding in 1990, the Bach Collegium Japan (BCJ), Japan's world-class ancient music performance group, has pursued the instruments and techniques of the era in which the composers were active, and has continued to convey the impact and excitement of the time when the works were created and the original energy of the works. After the renovation of the Saitama Arts Theatre in Sai-No-Kuni, the annual performance in Saitama will return for the first time in three years. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the theater, which has been absorbing the full sound of the BCJ in many concerts and recordings since its early days, the BCJ will present a celebratory program of Bach's masterpieces. Beginning with the famous piece later known as "Aria on the G string," this spectacular program of instrumental and vocal pieces will surely convey the full appeal and depth of Bach's music not only to lovers of ancient music, but also to those new to it.
Prior to the performance, BCJ Music Director Masaaki Suzuki will give his customary lecture on the works. This is a rare opportunity for Suzuki himself to talk about the program he has woven. Please come and enjoy this special one-day-only performance, which marks the theater's 30th anniversary.
