The seventh performance will be titled "Girolamo Frescobaldi's Madrigale" and will feature madrigales and arias by Frescobaldi, the great master of keyboard music in the early Italian Baroque.
Born in Ferrara at the height of the polyphonic madrigale, Frescobaldi studied under Lutzaski, who wrote music for the best orchestras of the time, and from the age of 14, he worked as the principal organist of the city, later becoming the organist of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome at just 25 years old, where his inaugural performance was attended by an audience of 30,000 people. Frescobaldi, who was a great organist then and remained a great organist long after his death, wrote only one book of madrigales and two books of arias.
Compared to Dindia and Jesualdo, which were performed last year, Frescobaldi's madrigale has a gentle resonance with straightforward harmony. The aria collection is also full of small but attractive pieces.
