The 9th Ryogoku Art Festival 2024

Artistic Director: Akiko Yamane

2024/08/03(sa.) 19:00 Starting

Ryogoku Monten HallTokyo

Official https://www.monten.jp/raf9

Composer Akiko Yamane will be the artistic director, and the theme of the festival will be "secondary creation.
This is an experiment unique to the composer, who continues to lightly and sharply critique contemporary consumer society while manipulating keywords such as "pop" and "kawaii.
The theme will be explored in depth over six days in three different concerts featuring piano music.
Come and listen to the music of "now" in an intimate small space and through live online streaming, transcending generations and regions.

Message to the Performers
Originality, creativity.
The year is 2024. Countless musical compositions already exist and can be mass-produced. On the other hand, in modern artistic thought, writing unique music from scratch with notes is the axis of originality in composition and has had a strong authority.
The focus of the festival is on music that intentionally uses already existing compositions and concepts in some form. The name of the theme derives from "secondary composition" in pop culture. In this festival, the possibility and interest of quotation, selection, and editing will be contemplated and shared from the perspective of art music as a work for piano. In this age of sustainability, when we speak of originality, what exactly is originality and where does creativity lie?
