During my childhood in Spain and my long years as an exchange student, I meet many different people from all over the world. Many of them are fascinated by Japanese culture and history, and I am surprised to learn that some of them have a deeper knowledge of Japan than I do.
This experience has renewed my interest in the question of what it means to be Japanese, and I have become very interested in the unique sensibilities of the Japanese people, their hidden passions, the aesthetics of silence, and the way they perceive the flow of time. This program is an attempt to explore such deep spirituality and convey the deep soul of Japan through the works of Japanese composers.
As a Japanese performer, I feel it is important to continue to spread the appeal of Japanese works throughout the world. As the first step in this direction, I am honored to perform this program on the glorious stage of Suntory Hall. I hope that we will be able to fully present our one and only world view to you.
