From Chisato Fukumoto
I am very honored and humbled to be selected as a pianist for the Recital Series of the Emerging Performers Development Project.
I have chosen a program of pieces that all have a story to tell.
In particular, "The Maiden of Orleans," which depicts the life of Jeanne d'Arc, was premiered by me last year in Japan and is rarely performed, so I hope you will enjoy listening to it.
Herault and Leandros lost their lives for love, Jeanne d'Arc fought for the love of God, Lutoslawski walked 400 km to his hometown during the war, Rachmaninoff left his hometown and never set foot on Russian soil again, all the main characters and composers in this program are on a long journey with their whole being. Each piece is a character in its own right.
Each piece is dramatically and delicately portrayed, as if you could feel the character firsthand.
What did they think and how did they live their lives? I will do my best to deliver them to you in sound.
We hope many of you will come. We look forward to seeing you there!
