Summer Special Concert of the National Mahler Musikverein

The orchestra of Hitotsubashi University, which is active in Kunitachi, has a unique custom that is unparalleled in the world. Once a year, the orchestra forms the "Mahler Musikverein" and performs Mahler's Symphony No. 9. The students spend their precious four years devoting themselves to Mahler's works, and eventually become full-fledged Mahler 9 players (blowers) and leave for the world. This year's alumni, who will turn 30 this year, have had such a precious experience and have planned a special concert. The soloist for this concert will be Mr. Hiroka Yamashita, the first prize winner of the 92nd Music Competition of Japan in the vocal division, and we will also present some of Mahler's masterpieces by young musicians. Although we usually play the role of a sophisticated adult, sometimes we still feel like a student, and we are in a somewhat unstable mood.
