This was our first performance in Osaka. The program includes Wagner's Overture to a musical opera, which evokes a luxurious and gorgeous temple; Glière's Concerto, in which the young soloist's horn speaks and sings eloquently; and Rachmaninoff's mature symphony, a sublimated feast of frenzied aestheticism and dazzling rhythmic feast. Although Glière is not well known, he was a contemporary of Rachmaninoff, and this concerto in particular is an important repertoire for horn players. Please come and hear him perform.
