Pianist Aimi Kobayashi won the fourth prize at the 2021 Chopin Competition, her second attempt. In the past, she had rapidly emerged as a precocious pianist, making her Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 9, her major CD debut at 14, and an appearance in the Philia Hall "Encounters with the Goddess" series in 2011 at the age of 15.
At that time, the word that the public used to describe her as a young woman was "girl genius. Along with the surprise and admiration for her ageless technique and expression, there was also an undeniable sense of anticipation for her future maturity.
Many years later, after 13 years, she will make her return to the Philia Hall as a first-class pianist with a magnificent presence, and her life experiences, including her first Chopin Competition (where she was a finalist), will have given her not only the performance techniques that she has honed since childhood, but also the depth of her interpretation of the works.
