The first half of this concert will feature the Violin Concerto by Georges Ligeti, one of the most famous composers of the 20th century. The mysterious sound of the concerto, which features strings with different tunings, recorders, and even an ocarina, will transport you to another world. This is a difficult piece that demands superb technique from the conductor and orchestra, and promises to be full of surprises and discoveries. The second half of the concert will feature Schubert's eternal masterpiece, Symphony No. 8 "The Great". Although Schubert and Ligeti composed their works only 170 years apart (and both were active in the same city, Vienna), you will experience this radical change in musical style.
