The Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra's principal double bass, Hiroshi Ikematsu, was even more enthusiastic under Gilbert's baton. The second half features Rimsky=Korsakov's masterpiece "Scheherazade," whose brilliant orchestration is a predecessor of Lindberg and Tubin. The concertmaster's solo and the wind solos are abundant, making this a masterpiece that is truly worth listening to in its entirety.
