The Nagoya Bruckner Orchestra was formed in 1995 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Bruckner's death by members of the Nagoya University Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras in the Tokai Student Orchestra League. Since the first concert in June 1996, the orchestra has performed Bruckner's complete symphonies at a pace of almost once a year. The orchestra has also performed works by Mozart, R. Strauss, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Brahms, Sibelius, and many other composers.
For the 200th anniversary of Bruckner's birth, we have chosen Bruckner's Symphony No. 0, which will be performed for the second time. Following Bruckner's Symphony No. 6 the year before last and Symphony No. 4 last year, this year the orchestra will perform Sibelius' Symphony No. 2. We are looking forward to seeing how well the Blue Orchestra will be able to keep up with the conductor, Mr. Yuri Nitta, who is the president of the Sibelius Society of Japan!
