Maestro Kazuyoshi Akiyama's first appearance with the Japan Philharmonic in Tokyo in half a century (June 2022) was a great success. This year's concert will feature three "Masterworks" from the late Romantic period. Berg's atonal yet sensual compositions create a one-of-a-kind world, while Akiyama's folk-inspired compositions bring to the forefront the folkloric colors of the late Romantic period. Dvořák's works have a deep and profound content, with a mixture of modern melancholy and clamor, while bringing ethnic colors to the forefront. In between these two works is the second concerto that R. Strauss wrote in his later years for the horn, an instrument that he loved all his life. The soloist is the Japan Philharmonic's proud young principal horn player, Hiroshi Nobusue. His beautiful tone and technique will lead the audience into a world of bliss.
