Ochanomizu OB Orchestra 51st Concert

　In this concert, we will present three pieces from the northern countries, appropriate for the early spring when the weather is still cold.

　First is "Fantastic Waltz" by Mikhail Glinka, who is considered the father of the Russian national music school. His works are filled with rich emotion and unmistakable melancholy. The waltz, in particular, was Glinka's favorite form of music, and although it is a small piece, it is surely enjoyable to listen to the various changes in tone.

　Next, I would like to introduce the suite "Christian II" by Jean Sibelius, the proud composer of Finland. Sibelius's music is often inspired by Norse mythology and is filled with awe of beautiful and mysterious nature and gods, or powerful songs of patriotism for one's country, etc. This work, written as incidental music for a historical drama about a real Danish king, also expresses his style in abundance. Although not often performed, this is a work that Sibelius lovers should keep in mind as an ambitious work written just before he took his first step as a symphony composer.

　The main work on the program is Symphony No. 5 by the great Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky. It may be unnecessary to mention it now, but Tchaikovsky's music, further developed from Glinka, depicts the sentiments and passions of the Russian people, deeply moving the listener's heart from a melancholy expression to an affectionate melody and finally to a state of triumph.

The program of this concert is designed to allow the audience to fully enjoy the passion, melodic beauty, and folkloric elements that are characteristic of the music of the National Music School. We hope you will come to the venue and enjoy a brief moment of early spring.
