Kyushu Wind Ensemble Concert 2024

The Kyushu Wind Ensemble is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and Johan de Mey will return to the Across Fukuoka stage to commemorate the occasion!
This is his 10th anniversary concert as principal guest conductor. The main piece he will perform is Symphony No. 2 "The Big Apple". This piece, subtitled "New York Symphony," is a masterpiece in which Johann de Mey established his own style and solidified his position as a composer. It is also known as one of the most difficult wind symphonies of all time.
For the first half of the program, "Casanova" for cello and wind orchestra is selected. The soloist for this piece, a masterpiece that transcends the realm of brass band music, will be the cellist, Yuki Ito, an outstanding talent in the cello world. The two, who have performed together in other countries, will lead the audience into the world of 18th-century Italy with their well-matched performance. Yuki Ito, also known as a Rachmaninoff scholar, will perform "Elegy and Scherzo," a tribute to Rachmaninoff commissioned by Johan de Mey, and "American Prelude," a new piece released at the end of last year, as well as the Japanese premiere. This is a special program that will allow you to fully enjoy the world of Johan de Mey!
