Since 2021, Yugen Gakusha has been holding concerts throughout Japan to enjoy classical stories based on the two performing arts of gagaku and satsuma biwa.

The theme of the first concert in 2024 is "Spring.
The satsuma-biwa will sing poems composed by Saigyo and Sakurama Chunagon, both poets of the Heian period (794-1185), while the sounds of gagaku (ancient Japanese court music) will color the space.
The highlight of the concert will be "Spring Banquet," a piece based on "The Tale of Genji," which is currently the subject of a major TV drama. The piece depicts the aristocrats of the Heian period floating a boat on a pond in their garden and enjoying their pleasure in the spring. The music was composed by Nishiki Tsuruta (of the Tsuruta school of satsuma biwa), famous for his collaboration with Toru Takemitsu. This is one of the most elegant and gorgeous pieces of music of the Tsuruta school.
Please enjoy the beautiful scenery of Honrenji Temple, the venue of the concert, in the season of cherry blossoms and flowering orchids.
Guest performers include Fumiya OTONASHI, a Gagaku (traditional Japanese court music) performer who has performed with the Hasunuma Shota Philharmonic Orchestra and Timhecker World Tour, among others, and is active around the world.
