<Profile of Shoji Jugame> Born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Jugame began playing violin at the age of 8 and clarinet at 15.
Born in Hiroshima Prefecture, Shoji Jugame began playing the violin at the age of 8 and the clarinet at 15. Graduated from Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, and completed the graduate course at the same university. 1978, while still a graduate student, he joined the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. 35 years later, he became the principal clarinetist of the orchestra. He joined the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra in 1978 while still in graduate school and served as the orchestra's principal clarinetist for 35 years, retiring in May 2012. He has been a part-time lecturer at Seitoku University's Department of Music, Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, and Musashino Academia Musicae. On the other hand, he has been active as a performer of ethnic instruments. He has been invited to play the Scottish bagpipes both in Japan and abroad, and has performed in major halls in Japan, as well as in the United States, France, and Korea.
