Junchu Otaka (1944-2021) graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris with first prizes in harmony, counterpoint, and fugue, and returned to Japan with a rich musical tradition, French écriture, and compositional metier. He also served as a professor at the Tokyo University of the Arts, where he taught younger students for many years.
