Tallis Scholars, who continues to dominate the choral world with her exceptional voice, will make her first appearance at the Fukuoka Symphony Hall in nine years.
Founded at the age of 20 by choral conductor and musicologist Peter Phillips, the group consists of 10 members of mixed voices (men and women) and has been captivating the world for half a century with its repertoire of Renaissance music and church music such as mass pieces, and is considered the pinnacle of a capella.
The Sistine Chapel mentioned in the title of this program is the chapel in the Vatican Palace where Michelangelo's masterpiece, the huge fresco "The Last Judgment," was painted. Allegri's "Miserere," a secret piece for special services here, is synonymous with the Tallis Scholars, and is said to have been composed in the 1630s and is still sung today. It is said that Mendelssohn and Liszt also copied it down in later generations.
