Russian Orthodox Influence in Russian Classical Music

Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music offers a number of art lectures in order to familiarize the citizens of the prefecture at large with art and culture.
We will invite Momo Saito, who has been active as a pianist and piano educator, and has been engaged in full-scale musical research at the Moscow Conservatory since 2018, and continues to actively study Russian music and music education, to give a lecture-concert. He has been actively conducting research on Russian music and music education at the Moscow Conservatory since 2018, and will give a lecture and concert. It is often said, "In Russian musical works, one can hear the sound of Russian Orthodox bells and Russian Orthodox chants. In this lecture, we will take up musical works by Rachmaninoff, Metonel, and others, and explain how the sound of Russian Orthodox bells and chants are incorporated into their works and how they influence the composition of their works, showing actual examples and performing their piano works. Sora Kobayashi, Professor of Composition at the University of Tokyo, will serve as a listener, offering a rare and precious opportunity for an overview of Russian piano music while listening to actual performances of Russian piano music.
