Introduction of the Band
The Shirokane Hepburn Symphonic Band was founded in March 2002 mainly by graduates of the Meiji Gakuin University Symphonic Band.
The members, who range from adults to students, perform mainly in the Tokyo metropolitan area, as well as at elementary school family concerts and other local performances and regular concerts.
In past concerts, the group has premiered commissioned works, performed with professional musicians at anniversary concerts, and jointly performed with junior high school students. This time, we will hold our 21st concert with a renewed spirit.
We are practicing every day with the aim of giving a performance that will bring tears, laughter, and emotion to all who listen to it.
We are serious about music, but we never forget to have fun. That is what we "Hebobuki" are all about!
What is this concert about?
The first part of this year's concert will be based on the theme of movie music. In addition to the three pieces you may have heard somewhere before, "Sound Barrier" is a well-known piece by Arnold, who was also involved in British film music. We hope you will feel the dramatic music that conveys the charm of the movie.
In the third part, we will perform "Symphonic Overture" by Burns and "Festival Variations" by Smith, two of the leading composers of brass band music. Both are famous for being "big" and "difficult" pieces, but they are masterpieces filled with the charm of "this is brass band music. Please enjoy the real pleasure of listening to brass band music in concert!
What is the "Planning Stage"?
The second part of the Hebbofuki concert is the "Planning Stage"! Simply put, it is a "music play" like no other.
In the past, we have performed popular and well-known songs along with the stories of various stages and characters, such as theme parks, historical dramas, magical worlds, galaxies, famous TV shows, cartoons, folk tales, and appearances by popular personalities. The concert has been well-received every year as an entertainment⁉ that is more than just a performance; it is a chance to enjoy music in a casual way.
This year's concert will be a little different, as we will present Wind Band Stories "My Neighbor Totoro" as a musical drama with narration.
