About the Bishamonten Orchestra
We are an amateur orchestra founded in 1989.
We have been under the direction of Mr. Ryuji Uesugi, a contrabass player of the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra since its foundation.
Since Mr. Uesugi was related to Kenshin Uesugi, we borrowed the name of Bishamonten (the god of Buddhism) and named the orchestra after him.
Unfortunately, Mr. Uesugi passed away in 2004. Therefore, we are now under the guidance of Mr. Toshimitsu Yokoyama, a conductor who studied under Mr. Uesugi, and continue our activities.
All the members of the group will continue to devote themselves to the music taught by Mr. Uesugi, and under the guidance of Mr. Yokoyama, we will aim for even greater heights to live up to the name of Mr. Uesugi.
We are currently running a campaign to recruit new members! Please check the details from the group's website.
