In this fourth installment of the series, we will reconsider the activities of composers in postwar Japan, not only within the framework of music history, but also from the perspective of cultural and artistic history.
Focusing on "Matinee Poétique," an experiment in rhymed fixed form poetry that emerged in the Japanese poetry circles in the 1940s, and on composers influenced by modern French music, we would like to make a beginning to examine poetry in contemporary music.
For "Matinee Poétique," Yoshinao Nakata has already written a series of poems, but this time we commissioned Kenta Masuda, who is attracting attention as an up-and-coming composer, to compose several poems from the same collection, in order to look at poetry today, 70 years apart.
