It has been a long time since my last homecoming concert. The concert will include a concerto by Marcello, Bach cantatas and viola da gamba sonatas arranged for instrumental chamber music, as well as the premiere of a new composition by his friend and composer, Hiroshi Nihei.
The co-starring musicians are bassoonist Satohiko Kondo, who has long been active as a musician in New York, and pianist Kanako Hashiguchi.
The highlight of the concert will be Bach's "Cantata for a Marriage," in which the solo singing part will be performed by bassoon, the oboe will play the obbligato, and the piano will play the basso continuo chord. This kind of experiment is very rare. The oboe and oboe d'amore will also play the gamba part of Bach's viola da gamba with bassoon, oboe obbligato, and basso continuo chords, and will also play familiar pieces such as Saint-Saens' "The Swan" and Handel's "Let Me Cry.
The venue is "Historia Ube," a historical building in the center of Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. It is a very retro building.
