Greetings from the New Japan Symphony Orchestra
The 113th Subscription Concert of the New Japan Symphony Orchestra will feature the symphonies of Stravinsky and Shostakovich, who were born at the end of Imperial Russia.
　The first half of Stravinsky's Symphony in C was composed in Europe, while the second half was composed in the United States. Although the symphony is relatively small in size, it is a fine piece with light melodies, complex harmony, and tonalities.
　Shostakovich, who remained in the Soviet Union and continued to compose, was a composer who was constantly at the mercy of politics. His Symphony No. 10, published after Stalin's death, is considered one of Shostakovich's masterpieces. It is a large-scale symphony with three orchestras, and there is an anecdote that a three-day debate was held on its interpretation and the composer's intentions.
　The symphony by two composers who lived in the same era under different circumstances will be performed under the baton of Tsuyoshi Tabei. We hope all the audience will enjoy this first subscription concert of the New Japan Symphony Orchestra at MUZA Kawasaki.

New Japan Symphony Orchestra

The New Japan Symphony Orchestra is an amateur orchestra that has been active mainly in Tokyo since its establishment in 1966. The orchestra currently has about 80 members, ranging in age from teens to 60s, and its activities are based on regular rehearsals on Wednesdays, and regular concerts twice a year, in spring and fall. In recent years, the group has set a medium-term theme to guide its musical activities and aims to grow as a continuously active group. Another feature of the group is its friendly atmosphere and active communication with members of all ages and from diverse industries and professions, and after the 110th Anniversary Concert in the spring of 2023, the group will continue to enhance its activities.
