Estonian Youth Mixed Chorus VOX POPULI to Perform in Japan for the First Time

I never used folk songs in my compositions. Folk music used me.
The Estonian composer Veljo Tormis always introduced himself in this way. His words reminded people of his deep love and interest in folk songs, and of the importance he attached to the existence of the people. His interest was not limited to the surviving songs and recorded melodies, but extended to the small songs of the ethnic minorities around Estonia, which numbered less than 100, and resulted in more than 200 choral works.
The program for this Japan tour also includes a variety of songs of the Finno-Ugric language tribe, and we are confident that it will be an interesting event along with the video.

Youth Mixed Chorus VOX POPULI

The encounter with Tormis at the concert commemorating the 80th anniversary of the birth of Velijo Tormis was the beginning of a collaboration with the directors Anne Trumpp and Eva Kordits, and since then they have continued to perform mainly Tormis' works with deep respect. This year's performance will be a choir performance created for the 90th anniversary of his birth in 2020. The world of V. Tormis will be presented together with a video featuring Estonian nature.

Janne Fridolin studied at the Estonian Academy of Music and Drama under Tonu Kariyuste and Anne Trumpp, completed his doctoral studies, and holds a doctorate in philosophy. She has taught choral music to children and adults. He has received numerous awards as a young conductor, and in 2022 was awarded the Order of the White Star of the Fifth Class by the President of the Republic of Estonia.
