The Baroque period was a time when the unique techniques and expressions of instrumental music, which took advantage of the characteristics of each instrument, flourished. New musical styles for instrumental music such as sonatas and concertos were born, and Italy was the stage for them. It was in Italy in the late 17th century that the cello instrument was born. Over the next 100 years, many cello sonatas, including Bach's Unaccompanied Suites, Vivaldi, Geminiani, and others, were composed throughout Europe and have been handed down to the present day. This concert will focus on works for cello composed in Italy in the 18th century. We hope you will enjoy the delicate and rich expression of the instruments, bows, and gut strings of that style, and the intimate dialogue with the Italian-style harpsichord!
