Beethoven composed his masterpiece "Kreutzer" in 1803, and Tolstoy's masterpiece "Kreutzer Sonata" published in 1889 is a confession story of a man who killed his wife in a fit of jealousy. The piano player with whom his wife has an affair, Tolhachevsky, is a violin virtuoso, and their relationship deepens when they play the "Kreutzer" together. It was not until 1923 that the Czech composer Janacek set this story of "celibacy" to music. His String Quartet No. 1, "Kreutzer Sonata," is known as one of the most famous string quartets of the 20th century.
