Cello Ensemble Nakanoshima was formed in 2015 by eight cello players who played in the Osaka University Symphony Orchestra from the 1970s to the early 1980s, reuniting after more than 30 years. The name of the ensemble comes from the fact that their rehearsal space when they were students was an abandoned building (?) at the former site of the Faculty of Science in Nakanoshima. The name of the group comes from the fact that the place where we practiced when we were students was an abandoned building (?) in the former Nakanoshima science department.

So far, two concerts have been held: the first concert (March 27, 2016 at Osaka University Hall) and the second concert (January 27, 2018 at Tenma Church). Since the second concert, a pianist who was also a member of the cello section has joined the ensemble, giving the audience the opportunity to hear an unusual composition of eight cellos and piano.

The third concert was scheduled for April 2020, but after three and a half years of postponement, it will finally be held on September 24, 2023 at the Osaka City Central Public Hall. The Central Public Hall is a symbol of Nakanoshima, a nationally designated important cultural property, and a must-see venue.
