The season will close with a varied program of works by Artistic Director Yutaka Sado, including the 20th century British composer Britten's opera "Peter Grimes," a masterpiece first performed in 1945, and his suite "Four Sea Interludes," which Artistic Director Sado said was "a special repertoire that Bernstein featured in his last performance in Japan. Regarding the suite "Four Sea Interludes," Artistic Director Sado said, "This is a special repertoire that Bernstein performed during his last tour in Japan. It is a work that mysteriously depicts stormy and moonlit night scenes and shows Britten's genius. We have not had many opportunities to introduce Britten at PAC in the past, but he is a favorite composer that we would like to feature in the future," he said.
Also active in Germany in the 20th century, Hindemith's Chamber Concerto No. 5 is a concerto work for viola. The soloist will be Akiyoshi Taniguchi, a talented artist whose performance overwhelmed Artistic Director Sado.
The second half of the concert will feature Symphony No. 2 by Brahms, a German late Romantic composer. The work was begun in the beautiful lakeside town of Peltach, and its peaceful music, reminiscent of nature, is very appealing.
Artistic Director Sado said, "I hope that the audience will feel the beauty of an orchestra by experiencing a new work of the 20th century and enjoying a warm work representative of German music. We hope you will enjoy the time when you will be overwhelmed by the sound and descriptive power of the orchestra.
