Mendelssohn was given the score of Bach's "Matthew Passion" as a Christmas present when he was a child. Later, when he became a composer, he wrote Symphony No. 5 "Reformation" influenced by this piece. Mendelssohn, who was also a conductor, was able to perform Bach's "Matthew Passion" again, which he had been working on since childhood. This triggered a Bach boom in the music world at the time when German Romanticism was flourishing. It was against this backdrop that Mendelssohn's friend Joachim Raff arranged "Chaconne" for orchestra from the unaccompanied violin partita. It is also said that Schumann composed the Fourth Symphony while studying Bach with his wife Clara.
