Early Lutheran Vicinium Touring the Church Calendar 8

In the area heavily influenced by Martin Luther, who was excommunicated from Catholicism and became a Catholic with his own congregation, many two-voice polyphonies known as "bitinium" were published in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Many of the religious pieces are arranged according to the church calendar, and many are accompanied by biblical quotations, indicating that they were used in the actual liturgy.
In this concert series, we will begin with the beginning of the church calendar, the season of Advent, and continue through the year, covering the Vicinium according to the church calendar.

The final installment of the Church Calendar series in 2023 will be on October 31, Reformation Day. On this day, we will cover the Vaticinium with hymns written by Luther himself.

The two performers are Mai Nagai (recorder) and Takuya Sakamoto (baroque violin).
The "Vicinium" is polyphony of the smallest composition. This will be a very modest concert, but we hope you will join us.
