The inaugural performance of Trio Fractal, a percussion ensemble of master's degree graduates of Kunitachi College of Music!

Based on the concept of "contemporary music in an easy-to-understand manner," Trio Fractal will present music that can only be made possible through a deepened understanding of music from the perspectives of both "research" and "performance.
This concert features a varied program including all the movements of Zivkovic's "Trio per Uno," a staple of ensemble contests, D. Wheatley's "Duo for Two Marimbas," which will be performed for the first time in Japan, and Toru Takemitsu's masterpiece "Ame no Ki" (The Rain Tree).

We hope you will come to the concert. All the members are looking forward to seeing you.

Trio Fractal
Trio Fractal is a percussion ensemble group consisting mainly of graduates of Kunitachi College of Music.
The group's goal is to become a mediator of contemporary music. Recently, not only contemporary music, but also the music industry has been experiencing a fastification of music culture due to the rise of short-time entertainment, such as TikTok and YouTube Shorts. Contemporary music, in particular, is often perceived as "long-winded and difficult to understand," and perhaps because of this, young musicians who perform contemporary music are often forced to scale back their activities as they struggle to attract audiences.

Under these circumstances, the ultimate goal of this festival is to create opportunities for people to feel contemporary music as something close to them, to put a stop to the trend away from contemporary music and away from concerts, and to promote the tendency for people to go to concerts to listen to contemporary music.

In addition, the group intends to actively contribute to the community and society through cultural and artistic activities, and plans to hold workshops and concerts and participate in various events as part of its business activities to revitalize local musical activities and provide opportunities for children's emotional education.

As a first step toward this goal, we will plan and hold our first concert on Saturday, June 24, 2023. With the concept of "contemporary music in an easy-to-understand manner," the program will focus on percussion ensembles of two or three percussion instruments, and will include a Tom Tom duet, which is rarely performed, a marimba duet work to be premiered in Japan, and a performance of all movements of a work often performed in excerpt form. The program will include a rarely performed Tom Tom duet, a Japan premiere of a marimba duet, and a full-movement performance of a work often performed in excerpt form.
