Vocal Ensemble Capella is a vocal group formed in 1997 by professional vocalists who are engaged in ancient music under the musical direction of Tetsuro Hanai, an ancient musician.
This time, as part of the "Unknown Masterpieces 2" series, the group will focus on the Mass based on the song Rom armé by "Caron," who was mentioned by the 15th century theorist Tinctoris as one of the "most outstanding composers I have heard" along with Okegem and others in his writings.
As the Mass for the feast of the birth of St. John the Baptist, celebrated on June 24, we will perform the Gregorian chant of that day and related motets in liturgical form. Jean de la Farge's "Elizabeth is in Zachariah" is a refreshingly fine piece. The piece "Of those born of women" is a piece that is no longer performed because, although the manuscript bears the name of the great composer Josquin, it was determined that stylistically it was not his work. It consists of six sunny voices, and is an appropriate work for the day of the birth of St. John the Baptist, one of the most important days in the church calendar.
Join us on a journey in search of the hidden masterpieces of the Renaissance!
