Saori Kuriyama Prokofiev Piano Sonata No.2

The first concert featured Nos. 1, 5 (first edition), and 6, and this second concert will feature Nos. 2, 3, and 7.
The difference between No. 2, which was completed by adding an andante and finale to the first movement of the sonatina and a scherzo composed four years earlier, and No. 3, which is subtitled "From an Old Diary," and No. 7 (War Sonata), which was written about 30 years later, is remarkable. The reality that confronted Prokofiev, who had returned to his homeland with high expectations after touring the U.S. and Europe, was merciless, but his ability to adapt to it while also incorporating subtle irony may be evidence of his maturity.
In addition to these three pieces, this concert will feature works by composers who were important to the Russian Empire in the early 1900s.
