Setagaya Philharmonic Orchestra 60th Subscription Concert
2023/07/02(su.) 14:00 Starting
Showa Women's University Hitomi Memorial Auditorium (Tokyo)
Official https://setagaya-phil.net/
Program
This year's concert will begin with a familiar New Year's Concert, Johann Strauss II. The first piece will be the overture to the hugely popular comic opera "Die Fledermaus," followed by the "Tritsch Tratsch Polka," the waltz "Tropical Rose," the polka "Thunder and Lightning," and the "Emperor's Circle Dance. The second half is Brahms' Symphony No. 2, which was performed in Vienna at the same time as Strauss. Although their styles were quite different, they were close friends and respected each other's works. Brahms took more than 20 years to complete his First Symphony, but wrote his Second Symphony in only four months in the picturesque summer resort of Peltchach.
