Ritsumeikan University Symphony Orchestra The 129th Regular Concert

This will be our 129th regular concert, and the three pieces we will be presenting at this concert are an innovative selection of pieces that have never been performed in the past. One of the common points that connect these three pieces is the "theme music. We have been practicing these pieces, which have a clear narrative, always keeping in mind the image that we share with the audience. This concert will allow the audience to enjoy the concert while vividly imagining the culture Dvořák encountered in America, which was a completely new world for him, the view of an exhibition of paintings Mussorgsky went to see in memory of his late friend, and Gershwin's depiction of a big city inspired by the atmosphere of Paris.
The story of the composer's encounter with each other will also provide further interest. Ravel, who arranged "Pictures at an Exhibition" for orchestra, was a close friend of Gershwin. Although they did not meet directly, one cannot help but feel a fateful connection between Dvořák, the "Czech in New York," and Gershwin.
