A Journey to Explore Musical Identities Around the World with Karthun

Singapore and Japan. This program was put together from the perspective that only a conductor and orchestra who are not from the "home" of classical music can bring to the table. Myaskovsky (Russia), Akutagawa (Japan), and Janacek (Czech Republic) are unique composers who have kept a certain distance from Central Europe, and they will fully present their own ethnic and historical backgrounds through the typical Western music medium of orchestra. Each composer's "peculiar" music will be presented to you, sometimes with earthiness and sometimes with sophistication, as interpreted by Karthun in his own unique way. The soloist for Akutagawa's piece will be the young cellist Haruma Sato, the first Japanese winner of the Munich International Music Competition, which is known as an extremely difficult competition.
