Highlights
Reich's works, especially "Drumming," are strongly influenced by African music, and Reich was particularly influenced by his research on African music concerning the Ewe people of Ghana; in 1970, he studied drumming intensively at the African Institute of the University of Ghana. Drumming," one of Reich's early masterpieces, features a 12-member ensemble playing four parts: bongos, marimba, glockenspiel, whistle, piccolo, and voice. The next work after Xenakis' "Pleiades" was "Drumming," and after a year of intensive practice and rehearsal, it will be performed in December 2022 in the Meguro Persimon Hall's 20th anniversary project "Steinbreich Project," which will be held in the same hall. The performance was held as part of the "Stiebreich Project," a project commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Meguro Persimmon Hall in December 2022. This performance will include live performance and public recording.
