Yokohama Port Opening Festival The Brass Cruise 2023

　The preparation of the concert began in 1996 at the suggestion of then Yokohama Mayor Takahide as a concert to commemorate "Yokohama, the birthplace of brass band music in Japan. The "19th Yokohama Port Opening Festival Yokohama Hajimete Monogatari Charity Brass Band Concert The Brass Cruise 2000" held in 2000 as part of the Yokohama Junior Chamber of Commerce's urban development campaign was so inspiring and encouraging that many requests were received to continue the event in the future. The Yokohama Port Opening Festival The Brass Cruise Executive Committee was formed with the guidance and cooperation of not only economic organizations and the City of Yokohama, but also the national, prefectural, and municipal governments, other related organizations, and various industries, as well as many citizen volunteers, including representatives of performing groups, brass band instructors, and music lovers, to hold the concert simultaneously with the 20th Yokohama Port Opening Festival in the following year. （The "Yokohama Port Opening Festival Charity Brass Band Concert The Brass Cruise" is planned and held every year as a (related) event.

　This concert is planned and held annually to support four causes: the promotion of brass bands and the International City of Culture Yokohama, understanding and support for marine environment preservation (activities of the Japan Coast Guard), support for the Blue Feather Charity Fund (Japan Water Rescue Association), and support for the recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake and the victims of the disaster, as well as the "42nd Yokohama Port Opening Festival". The resolution was passed as a means to support the 42nd Yokohama Port Opening Festival.

　There will be two performances, one in the daytime and one in the evening. The theme of the daytime performance is "Hibiki" and the concert will begin at 12:10. The festival brass band, which was organized through public subscription, will resume its activities after an interval of eight years, and the gold prize winners from the junior high school, high school, and general sections of the All Japan Brass Band Competition will also perform. The final performance will consist of a model performance by the Air Self-Defense Force's Air Central Band, all of which are leading groups in Japan with outstanding achievements, including the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Award in brass band competitions. The theme of the evening performance is "Aspiration" and the concert begins at 6:30 pm. The Yokohama City Fire Band will perform in a symphonic band formation and will demonstrate their true potential in a seated performance, followed by a general public brass band group and then a standing performance by a marching unit representing Japan.

　The "Yokohama Port Opening Festival Charity Brass Band Concert The Brass Cruise," which is being prepared for this year's event, will be held under the title of "More Brass Band! The concert is a gathering of Japan's leading brass bands and other musical groups that can be enjoyed by anyone.
